Akatsuki Ring meaning

Each Akatsuki member possesses a unique ring that is decorated with a kanji (symbol) and a different color depending on the owner who wears it. It is a powerful gift as the Akatsuki ring once put on cannot be removed. Orochimaru, who was once part of this organization had to cut off his arm in order to not be bound to it anymore.

As noted above, the rings wear different kanji. For the 8 members, these kanji are related to the divinities of Chinese mythology: Seiryu, Byakko, Suzaku, Genbu, Kuchin, Nanju, Hokuto, Santai, and Gyokuno. Each divinity is represented in a different way and can be related to the different members of the Akatsuki except the chief; indeed, his kanji is unrelated to these Chinese gods as it is translated as "REI". This term is ambivalent: on one side it can mean "spirit" and on the other side, it is also defined by the number zero.

All the Akatsuki ring symbols can relate to a magic of yesteryear whose characters (Rin, Pyou, Tou, Sha, Kai, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai and Zen) designate a sentence related to the deities: "We have the support of the gods and no one can defeat us". But, if we isolate those kanjis, they tend to be classified in the degree of power in ascending order, so the chief's attribute would be "Zen", which means "hidden formula".

But if the chief's kanji is ambivalent, the number zero is worrying because if we base ourselves on mythology, the zero is assimilated to the Mokushi, which symbolizes the Chinese apocalypse; indeed the zero is a number of nothingness, chaos and this absence of parallel with the divinities would then be justified...

Besides the strange meaning of these Akatsuki finger rings, we suppose that they are necessary for the extraction of the Bijuus, that they possess certain powers but also that their bearing is essential to the cohesion of the group.

HOW MANY AKATSUKI RINGS ARE THERE?

Originally, there were 10 Akatsuki rings each awarded to a shinobi who wears it on a special finger. In Naruto Shippuden, the majority of the ninjas who joined the Akatsuki association were awarded one of those rings which, once worn, cannot be removed. Many fans thought that these Akatsuki members rings contained a special jutsu that could only be used by clan members. In the end, this is not the case, they are simply relics used to recognize the ninja's membership.

HOW MANY MEMBERS OF AKATSUKI ARE THERE THAT WEAR AKATSUKI RINGS?

Since his creation by his true leader Obito, Yahiko and Pain worked hard to get as many powerful members as they could and giving them their Akatsuki rings. One of the most famous of them being Uchiha Itachi which is a powerful ninja using mostly Genjutsu and Ninjutsu techniques as his Taijutsu isn't exceptional. Masashi Kishimoto plotted his main storylines after the Uchiha clan coup d'état with Itachi leaving his brother, Sasuke Uchiha, and joining the powerful organization of the Hidden Rain village controlled by the mysterious Pain. Itachi's secret was only known at this time by Obito who impersonates Madara Uchiha, killing all members of his clan to protect Konohagakure as requested by Danzo and the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, and exiling himself from his former village. With the help of Obito and his Mangekyou Sharingan, Itachi succeed on his task and kept peace among the Hidden Leaf.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF AKATSUKI RINGS?

As explained previously, Akatsuki rings are only there to submit his owner to the leader of the clan. The ultimate goal of the Akatsuki clan is to collect all the bijuu's and concentrate their Chakra to summon Juubi, the 10 tailed beast. To do that, they must fight against all the jinchuriki to recover them. Meaning that they will have to fight against Uzumaki Naruto and Nine Tails, Kakashi Hatake, Gaara, and even Jiraiya supported by powerful Chunin of every village. This task was so complicated that Obito, as he lost most of his members, asked help to Kabuto and used the Edo Tensei to create a new army.

This quest of power will create a lot of tension and sadness for many characters after the death of Asuma Sarutobi, the sensei of Shikamaru Nara and Sasuke's quest to destroy Konoha who upset Sakura Haruno and Naruto Uzumaki.
